Foundation English is separated into four strands that need to be assessed throughout the year, they are:
Ideas and Issues
Texts and Contexts
Two Applications
Extended Negotiated Study
These are discussed in more detail on the TQA website, as well as in the Foundation English course guide.
To be eligible to receive an award in this subject, students need to:
Be assessed at least three times on each criterion in order to be eligible to pass the course.
Pass their negotiated study project in order to be eligible to pass the course.
Foundation English Criteria: 1. Communicate accurately in a range of modes.
2. Demonstrate understanding of self and the world through composing and responding to texts.
3. Demonstrate understanding of how values and experiences shape the construction and interpretation of texts.
4. Work constructively with others.
5. Demonstrate understanding and appreciation of text structures and features.
6. Plan, organise and complete activities.
7. Compose and craft a range of texts for different purposes and audiences.
8. Collect and categorise information.
9. Negotiate, reflect upon and take responsibility for learning.
10. Communicate ideas and information.
